Why Racktivity?Maintaining uptime is of utmost importance to datacenters. Following that, energy consumption and managing the cost of energy is a primary concern. Racktivity innovations provide an integrated platform to reduce datacenter energy consumption and maximize uptime. Disaster Recovery & Disaster prevention of your services is key to managing and improving uptime. Where higher layers in the service model are taking care of server resources and application monitoring, the same does not apply to the lower layers. As a result a great majority of the datacenter operators do not have visibility to the lower layers of their datacenter! Those layers include the physical datacenter parameters like power, temperature, humidity, airflow, rack security, networking, etc. Every good datacenter is doing measurements on most parameters, but can't do proactive disaster recovery & disaster prevention. Basically, when an alarm is triggered by standard measurements, it is often too late and the disaster occurred. Additionally, it is hard to find out what server or rack caused the issue. For example, do you know what is the impact of adding a server or a full rack into your datacenter? Do you know what is the impact when power cycling 10 racks in your datacenter? That's why the datacenter layer is often called the Forgotten Layer. The Racktivity team developed the Rack Controller to avoid outages caused by an issue in the datacenter layer and in case an issue occurs to reduce downtime to a minimum. The Rack Controller constantly collects data on all datacenter parameters. Continuous trend analysis is monitored using those parameters, and when pre-set tresholds are exceeded, the Rack Controller generates an alarm and takes action.
